When the Wind Feels Too Strong

There are seasons when the air around us feels restless, too much movement, too many voices, too many demands. Like a strong wind, life can lift us from our grounding and scatter our attention in a thousand directions.
Air & Space remind us that even when the wind feels too strong, there is also breath, the Spirit’s quiet gift moving within us. The same air that unsettles can also steady. The same space that feels empty can also open us to Presence.
When Overwhelm Appears
A mind that won’t settle
Breath caught high in the chest
A heart racing ahead of the body
A sense of being unmoored, carried away
The invitation is not to resist the wind, but to soften into it. Like a tree that bends with a storm, we, too, can remain rooted even as life moves swiftly around us.
A Reflection Practice
Pause. Place your hand gently on your chest and notice your breath. Where do you feel the wind of your own body? Is it scattered, shallow, or quick?
Breathe. With each inhale, whisper inwardly: “Come, Spirit.”
With each exhale: “Settle me.”
Allow this rhythm to soften what feels caught or held too tightly.
Imagine. Envision yourself standing in a wide-open field. The wind is strong, but you are rooted. Notice the space around you not as emptiness, but as openness where God dwells.
Rest. Allow yourself to be held in this space until your breath begins to feel steadier.
Journaling Invitation
Where in your life does the wind feel too strong right now?
What helps you return to your breath when you feel scattered?
How might God be inviting you not to resist the storm, but to trust His Spirit moving within it?
Closing Blessing
May you know the One who calms the storm also breathes peace into you.
